Like our home planet, Jupiter has lightning and a magnetic field. So it is not surprising
that sferics and whistler-like signals have been observed by Voyager and other
space probes that have made close encounters with Jupiter.
Unfortunately, low-frequency signals from Jupiter cannot penetrate the
Earth's ionosphere and thus cannot be detected by terrestrial observatories.
However, the planet Jupiter emits radio waves in the 20 Mhz. region that are
easily received on Earth with relatively simple equipment.
